Young Carers are children and young people, age 17 and under, who provide unpaid care to a family member because of a disability, illness, mental health condition, or certain addictions.
Common tasks for a young carer may include practical tasks (e.g. cooking, housework, daily household tasks), personal care (e.g. bathing, dressing, helping with mobility) and some are also required to give emotional support.
What impact can caring responsibilities have on a pupil’s attainment, attendance and wellbeing?
Young carers experience particular challenges and demands that impact on their capacity to enjoy and achieve at school.
